This wreath and book pairing is for those who know that growth isn’t always linear — it moves like water, bending and breaking, but always carrying us forward.

In strange, dark days, we move forward through change, through ruin, through reinvention. This pairing  —  Reading the Waves by the incomparable (and indefatigable!) author, Lidia Yuknavitch, and an everlasting flower wreath hand-crafted by Treehorn Farm — is an offering for those who embrace transformation.

THE WREATH:

  • The wreath, with flowers spilling over a 12” grapevine base, is adorned with radiant strawflowers in warm jewel tones and lush, textured fillers. Like waves cresting and falling, these blooms are in transition, dried sustainably (no preservatives!) at their peak to preserve their brilliance — they slowly transform over time, reminding us that even in statis, beauty remains.

THE BOOK:

Lidia Yuknavitch writes:

  • “We are all swimming in the same ocean, trying to find shore.” (Reading the Waves)
  • “Even at the moment of your failure, right then, you are beautiful. You don’t even know it yet, but you have the ability to reinvent yourself endlessly. That’s your beauty.” (The Misfit’s Manifesto)

"I believe our bodies are carriers of experience," Lidia Yuknavitch writes in her provocative memoir Reading the Waves. "I mean to ask if there is a way to read my own past differently, using what I have learned from literature: how stories repeat and reverberate and release us from the tyranny of our mistakes, our traumas, and our confusions."

Drawing on her background — her father's abuse, her complicated dynamic with her disabled mother, the death of her child, her sexual relationships with men and women — and her creative life as an author and teacher, Yuknavitch has come to understand that by using the power of literature and storytelling to reframe her memories, she can loosen the bonds that have enslaved her emotional growth. Armed with this insight, she allows herself to look with the eye of an artist at the wounds she suffered and come to understand the transformational power this has to restore her soul.

By turns candid and lyrical, stoic and forgiving, blunt and evocative, Reading the Waves reframes memory to show how crucial this process can be to gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves.

Please note:

  • Please expect 2-4 weeks for shipping.
  • Your wreath comes with a hook to add to the back as well as a brown, velveteen ribbon.
  • Because no two things in nature are alike — and because our everlasting wreaths are created from natural materials — each of our wreaths is unique. Colors and blooms may vary slightly — but you can expect plenty of strawflowers, fillers, and sunny colors.
  • We wrap and ship wreaths carefully — but dried flowers are fragile — we include a small posey of dried flowers to replace any flowers unfortunate enough to have dropped off. Simply tuck them into your wreath. And, if none have fallen off, your posey comes wrapped in a bow to brighten up a dark corner of your home.
  • Dried flowers last a long time — but only with the proper care. Keep out of direct sunlight to avoid fading and do not get wet/damp.
